Yellow-mantled Chattering Lory

Chattering lories are predominantly red in colour with green wings. Three subspecies are endemic to the forests of North Moluccas, with each occupying different island clusters and varying slightly in appearance.

As canopy species, they nest in holes in very tall trees. These trees are also the target of selective logging for valuable timber, contributing to their decline in numbers. 

As the name suggests, chattering lories are good at imitating human speech. They are amongst the most popular pet birds traded within Indonesia, and as such face high trapping pressure.

Proposed conservation measures include research into their population dynamics and threats, trade monitoring, awareness campaigns as well as anti-poaching and anti-smuggling operations.
