Advocate for Wildlife
Docents and Conservation Ambassadors play an important role in creating meaningful and memorable wildlife experiences for guests.
Through sharing of interesting animal facts and unique stories about the animals under our care, Docents and Conservation Ambassadors help engage and inspire our guests to care for wildlife.

Docent
Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise or Night SafariPre-requisites
- Be 21 years and above
- Deep interest in nature and wildlife
- Willing to engage guests on wildlife conservation
- Comfortable in an outdoor environment
- Pass selection process
Recruitment
- Twice a year (April – June, September – November)
Commitment
- 8 – 10 weeks of training, usually on Saturdays and Sundays
- Upon successful evaluation, commit monthly duty of 2 hours per session for at least a year
Conservation Ambassadors
Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise or Night SafariPre-requisites
- Between 15 – 21 years old. Full time students who are above 21 years old may also apply
- Deep interest in nature and wildlife
- Willing to engage guests on wildlife conservation
- Comfortable in an outdoor environment
Recruitment
- Four times a year, across different parks
Commitment
- 2 full days of training
- Upon successful evaluation, commit monthly duty of 2 hours per session for at least a year
Animal Care
Animal care volunteers contribute to the care of our animals by assisting our Animal Care team in their daily tasks.
Through volunteering, Animal care volunteers gain insights into the best wildlife husbandry practices and contribute to animal care at Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
Keeper Volunteer
Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise or Night SafariPre-requisites
- Be 18 years old and above
- Have prior experience in husbandry work at an organization OR an existing Docent/Conservation Ambassador who has volunteered for at least 24 hours with us
- Able to commit 5 days a week for at least 4 weeks, or weekly for at least 1 year
Note: International applicants must be eligible to apply for Work Holiday Pass (WHP) or Training Employment Pass (TEP). Refer to the Ministry of Manpower website for more information.
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain exhibit areas and animal dens
- Prepare daily feeding for animals
- Record observations of enrichment conducted by keepers
- Observe and assist keepers during commentary/guest engagement/token feeding sessions

Administrative payment
- Training Employment Pass Holders must make additional administrative payment of $330 (non-refundable)
Vaccinations required
- Tetanus
- Volunteers based at Primate sections will additional vaccination and blood tests against Hepatitis B
If you have taken these vaccinations before, please ensure they are still valid at the time of your volunteer period.

Veterinary and Research
- Be a Veterinary Student Volunteer
- Be a Student Research Volunteer
This programme offers volunteers with a keen interest in wildlife medicine an opportunity to observe and participate in selected clinical procedures under supervision.
At the end of the programme, volunteers will gain insights into different aspects of avian, and zoological medicine under the guidance of our veterinary team.
Veterinary Volunteer
Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise or Night SafariPre-requisites
- Be in a final year student of veterinary medicine course at the time of volunteer placement
- Be able to commit either 2 or 4 weeks
Note: International applicants must be eligible to apply for Work Holiday Pass (WHP) or Training Employment Pass (TEP). Please refer to the Ministry of Manpower website for more information.
Responsibilities
- Record observed cases using standardised format
- Interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., radiographs, hematology, biochemistry)
- Monitor restraint episodes and record pertinent information such as anesthetic and physiologic parameters
- Assist veterinary nurses with routine treatments and other assigned tasks
- Prepare for upcoming procedures including medical record review and independent reading on unfamiliar species and techniques
- Complete reading assignments
- Complete a research project and present findings to the hospital and/or husbandry staff

- Volunteers based at Singapore Zoo will require additional vaccination for Rabies

Application

This programme offers volunteers with a keen interest in understanding research process in a zoological institution.
Volunteers will have the unique opportunity to partake and engage in a range of zoo-specific research projects not limited to behavioural, nutritional and welfare science.
Student Research Volunteer
Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise or Night SafariPre-requisites
- University students taking Science-related studies in Singapore
- Comfortable with an outdoor work environment
- Pass a selection process
- Commit 48 days within 3-month period
Note: Foreign students studying in Singapore who wish to apply must be eligible to work in Singapore. You can check your eligibility on the Ministry of Manpower website.
Responsibilities
- Learn and engage in animal husbandry management practices
- Design experimental designs and participate in data collection related to research project
- Assist with producing technical reports and documentation
- Present findings to relevant committees and key stakeholders

- Volunteers based at Primate sections will require additional vaccination and blood tests against Influenza and Hepatitis B
