The superb starling has a dark head, pale eyes and metallic blue-green upperparts. A conspicuous thin white band separates the blue upper breast from the chestnut abdomen. There is white also under the wing at the vent area beneath its short tail.  Superb starlings are amongst the most commonly sighted birds in Waterfall Aviary.    

Gregarious in nature, it feeds in groups on the ground, often near towns and fields or near animal herds. Its song consists of various whistles and warbles while its alarm call is loud and whining. It often mimics other species.

Superb starlings are cooperative breeders - group members help breeding pairs raise their young. Some females cheat with subordinate males from their social group when they
need additional help with chick-rearing. This male acquires food and tends to the nestlings, increasing the chicks’
survival rates.  

On the other hand, some females cheat with males outside their group. Mating with strangers increases their brood's genetic diversity, though it does not reap help with the chicks.
